Sonal Sancheti + Rahul Gore | Architects
_OPOLIS is a multidisciplinary design practice, started by Rahul Gore and Sonal Sancheti in January 2001. The firm prides itself in having stayed away from a signature style but believes that most complex and beautiful solutions are often the simplest. They do a wide range of architectural, interior and urban projects and have offices in Mumbai and Pune.
-OPOLIS has won several awards in the Young Architects category of the IIA Awards and the IIID Awards for the past years. They have recently won the “A+D Young Enthused Architect Award” in addition to the IIA, JK Cement and Archidesign Awards.
Their work has been widely published in leading national and international Architectural and Interior magazines. Recently _Opolis has won the Bihar Museum Competition with Maki and Associates, Japan.
Sonal Sancheti studied architecture at CEPT in Ahmedabad and her Masters Program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, Los Angeles (SCI-Arc). She has worked with Fumihiko Maki in Tokyo and Jerde Partnership in Los Angeles before returning to India. She has also worked in The Netherlands as an exchange student and traveled extensively in Europe, Japan and America. Sonal has done a short course in Film making and Art Direction and has been involved with Set Designing for movies and ad films. She teaches design as visiting faculty at the BSSA in Mumbai and has been a member of juries at various institutions in India. Besides designing, travelling, photography and painting are her keen interests.
Rahul Gore has studied architecture at Center for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) in Ahmedabad and his Masters Program in Urban Design at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He has worked a year with world renowned architect, Fumihiko Maki, in Tokyo Japan. Before this he has worked with Rahul Mehrotra Associates for a period of two years on various architectural and interior projects. He is an Associate member of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) and a visiting juror at the KRVIA School of Architecture in Juhu, Mumbai. More recently part of the award winning Indian team that won international acclaim at the International Urban Design Competition for the Design of Sustainable Cities hosted by Japan at the World Gas conference in June 2003.
